Abstract

The research aims to investigate the effect of collaborative strategic reading (CSR) and whether or not the strategy can enhance students' reading comprehension. The sample for this study was 25 students at SMPN 03 Bengkulu Tengah. The research applied a quasi-experimental time-series design to collect data using a pre-test and post-test. The study uses only one group, so it does not require a control group. Before conducting the post-test, the researcher gave treatment in the experimental class. One sample t-test formula was used to test a hypothesis with the requirement that data be distributed normally. This research used Kolmogorov-Smirnov to test the normality of the data. As a result of this study, the mean score of the post-test of experimental group class 83.54 was higher than the mean pre-test of experimental group class 51.94. The research can be concluded that the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy had a significant effect in helping the students’ reading comprehension. Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) can be an alternative strategy for teachers in teaching reading which can enhance students' reading comprehension ability, especially in eighth grade at SMPN 03 Bengkulu Tengah.
