Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the correlation of EFL students’ autonomy level of reading and their reading comprehension. The method used in this research is quantitative with correlational approach. The population of this study were all students of third semester English education study program which consisted of 4 classes. The reasearcher used simple random sampling technique to take the sample. Thus, the researcher took 40 students as the sample of this research. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that EFL students’ autonomy level of reading at third semester English education study program is included in the "Medium" level with a frequency of 20 and a percentage of 50%. While reading comprehension at third semester English education study program is included in the "Quite good" level with a frequency of 19, with a percentage result of 48%. From the results of the bivariate correlation test, it was found that sig. (2-tailed) < α = 0.002 < 0.05. Thus, the researcher concluded that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Moreover, the researcher found there was a positive relationship between EFL students’ autonomy level of reading and their reading comprehension with the Pearson Correlation coefficient of (+) 0.468 or 46.8% and the magnitude of the coefficient of determination (r²) = (0.468) ²= 0.219 or 21.9%. This means that EFL students autonomy level of reading variable has an effect of 21.9% on reading comprehension.
