The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not there was a correlation between reading habits and english speaking skills at SMP Negeri 6 Bengkulu City. This reveals the challenges and understanding faced by students in participating in learning activities. Design This study uses a quantitative approach, because the observed symptoms are converted into numbers that are analyzed using statistics. This is based on the assumption that all observed symptoms can be measured and converted into numbers that allow statistical analysis techniques to be used. If the final result shows a valid value of 0.05, this research is considered significant. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the correlation between reading habits is significant to the skills to speak English. The following is the interpretation of the results of the research through questionnaires and speaking tests. The results of the research show showed that the significance value for the correlation between reading habits and english speaking skills was 0.000, meaning that because this value was smaller than 0.05, it could be said that there was a correlation between reading habits and english speaking skills, while for the person correlation value it was 0.463, meaning the level of correlation between reading habits and english speaking skills are in the moderate category. Thus it can be concluded that reading habits are positively related to speaking skills with moderate or significant correlation applies to the majority of class VIII-D students at SMP 6 Negeri Bengkulu City.
