Abstract

Technological progress has undoubtedly been able to develop rapidly and even touch all areas of human life. This research was conducted with the aim of finding out the impact of the Discord application on students' speaking abilities. This research is quantitative research that uses quasiexperimental research. The subjects of this research were 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Bengkulu City, a total of 347 students. The sampling technique used in the research was random sampling and took two classes as samples. Class 8 H is a control class consisting of 35 students while class 8 J is an experimental class consisting of 35 students. The research instrument used was a test. Data was obtained from two types of tests, namely pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is used to determine students' speaking abilities before receiving special treatment, while the post-test is used to determine students' speaking abilities after receiving special treatment. In analyzing the data, researchers used the Wilcoxon Test and Mann-Whitney Test formulas using SPSS version 20. The results of the analysis showed that the value of Asymp. Sig (2-Tailed) is 0.361 which is greater than 0.05 (0.361 > 0.05). The results of this analysis mean that the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. It can be concluded that there is no significant influence on the Discord application on the speaking ability of grade 8 students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Bengkulu
