Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of the Role-Playing learning model on English learning outcomes viewed from students’ creativity at Junior High School 05 Bengkulu City. This research was motivated by low English learning outcomes, in which approximately 55% of students did not achieve the Minimum Mastery Criterion (MMC) of 75 due to passive learning activities and low levels of creativity. Therefore, an interactive learning model was needed to improve students’ engagement and learning outcomes. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. This Research Used QuasiExperiment Design which was conducted from October 9 to November 18, 2024, involving Grade IX students of SMP Negeri 05 Bengkulu City. From a population of 84 students, 56 students were selected as samples and divided into an experimental group (RolePlaying model) and a control group (conventional learning model). Data were collected through observation, creativity questionnaires, and English learning outcome tests measuring fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The results showed that the experimental group achieved higher results than the control group. The mean creativity score of the experimental group was 78.45, while the control group obtained 70.32. The mean posttest score of the experimental group reached 82.67, whereas the control group only achieved 72.14. The Two-Way ANOVA results indicated significant differences in English learning outcomes based on the learning model (F = 9.523; p = 0.003 < 0.05) and students’ creativity (F = 15.209; p = 0.000 < 0.05). However, no significant interaction was found between the learning model and students’ creativity (F = 0.680; p = 0.511 > 0.05). Therefore, the Role-Playing learning model has a positive effect on students’ English learning outcomes.
