Abstract

This study aimed to know meanings in President Prabowo Subianto’s inaugural speech are realized through the use of nominalization, passivization, modality, and rhetorical strategies and the objectives intended to be achieved through the use of nominalization, passivization, modality, and rhetorical strategies in the inaugural speech. This study analyzes President Prabowo Subianto’s inaugural speech using the perspectives of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The focus of the study is on the use of nominalization, passivization, modality, and rhetorical strategies. The result showed that these features are used strategically to construct meaning, express power, and strengthen presidential legitimacy. Nominalization and passivization present policies and problems as shared responsibilities while obscuring specific actors, creating a formal and objective tone. Modality, supported by inclusive pronouns, conveys firmness and commitment while promoting collective involvement. Rhetorical strategies such as repetition and calls for unity reinforce key messages and foster national identity, positioning the speech as a unifying political discourse.
