Abstract

Writing is the process of using symbols (alphabet letters, punctuation, and spaces) to express thoughts and ideas in simple form. This research aims to analyze students' writing abilities using observing, imitating and adding techniques. This type of research is qualitative. The research instruments are observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects of this research were ten English students as informants. As a result of this research, the researchers found several discoveries such as the ability of students who had started studying writing skills material, descriptive texts and also students who had begun to take part in learning using observing, imitating and adding techniques. However, during the observation process, researchers also found that students experienced difficulties in the process of learning writing skills in class. Educators must still have creative techniques or strategies in teaching students even though there are several obstacles experienced by educators. Researchers obtained results that students had indeed learned writing skills using the OIA technique, the teacher had implemented this learning in class XI. After conducting research interviews, it was discovered that students also experienced difficulties in following this lesson with several obstacles that students experienced, but there was nothing wrong with students applying the OIA technique well by learning writing skills and students were able to apply these techniques during class.
