Abstract
This research aims to understand the strategies employed by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in developing Project-Based Learning (PBL) based on the "Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar" in SMPIT Khairunnas Kota Bengkulu and to provide insight into the benefits and challenges faced by EFL teachers when integrating PBL into their teaching practices within the context of the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar. This study employs a qualitative method, data collection techniques through observations and interview. The participant in this research is one English teacher who has implemented project-based learning based on the Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar. Data analysis involves analyzing and detailing qualitative findings derived from the collected data. The results of the research indicate that project-based learning can enhance student engagement, teach life skills, and make learning more relevant to real-life situations. However, challenges include the need for more intensive teacher preparation, diverse student needs, and resistance to change from some students. Recommendations include improved teacher training, the development of technological resources, the utilization of local resources, regular evaluations, additional student support, the creation of creative teaching aids, collaboration with educational institutions, and student empowerment. By implementing these suggestions, project-based learning can become an effective tool in supporting the goals of the "Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar" and preparing a resilient generation for global challenges
