Abstract

This research aims to determine students' perceptions about the use and benefits of sociolinguistic learning using group learning in teaching reading. The population in this research were 12th grade students of Science 2 at SMAN 1 Kaur, totaling 17 people and a sample of 7. This research used a qualitative descriptive method which took one month to collect data through interviews. Based on the results of interviews regarding students' perceptions regarding the use of the code-mixing method, the researcher can conclude that the use of the code-mixing method in grade 12 culture and language students makes students feel comfortable and happy to participate in the English language learning process. In addition, the use of sociolinguistic learning in this group learning activity also improves students' English language skills and makes students feel that it is important to continue studying in groups in the process of learning to read in class so that it is easier to capture information from the material explained by the teacher
