Abstract

English is not only about empathy skills, but also aspects such as grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Pronunciation plays an important role in communication (speaking). The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the Duolingo application in improving students' English pronunciation skills with the help of storytelling techniques for class VII MTS 1 Kaur students. The research population was MTsN 1 Kaur students in class VII(1) with a total of 34 students as the experimental group and class VII(2) with a total of 34 students as the control group. The research method used was a non-equivalent quasi�experimental control group design. In the non-equivalent control group design, there are two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. Research findings, the experimental pre-test obtained a scores of 50 to 85, with an average score of 71.24. Meanwhile, the post-test produced scores ranging from 70 to 95 with an average of 85.24. The control class obtained an average score of 55.18, with the lowest pre-test control score being 3o to 70. Meanwhile the post-test produced an average score of 66.00, with a score of 50 to 85. It is proven that the effectiveness of the Duolingo application with the help of storytelling techniques can improve students' English pronunciation skills seen from the data results obtained. This technique provides an interesting and effective alternative in teaching pronunciation skills.
