Abstract

At the writing stage students are required to be able to provide good and correct ideas, namely with correct spelling, appropriate vocabulary, effective sentences, and good paragraphs. In this case, students of SMAN 4 Bengkulu Utara are expected to be able to communicate using written language properly and correctly, and this ability must increase when they are in college.The ability to write well is very helpful for students’ because it allows them to communicate their thoughts and feelings in writing. Students can convey their ideas, thoughts, feelings, opinions, and experiences through writing. They will be able to express their thoughts, emotions, attitudes, etc. on paper by writing. They express what's on their mind without speaking by doing this hobby. Writing also allows students to preserve and expand their vocabulary, and most importantly, writing fosters creative thinking skills.This research aims to see whether there is an effect when using the peer correction technique on the ability to write descriptive paragraphs in class XI Mipa 1 and XI Mipa 2 students at SMAN 4 Bengkulu Utara. In this research, researchers used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental design type of research .There are 32 students in class XI Mipa 1 as an experimental class and 32 students in XI Mipa 2 as a control class.The instrument used in this research is a written test, namely writing descriptive paragraphs using pre-test and post-test.The data analysis technique used in this research is the T test with the help of the SPSS version 25 program. The results of this research showed that there is a significant effect of using the peer xiii correction technique on students' ability to write descriptive paragraphs.The significance value in the table shows 0.001 > 0.05 so Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.Based on the result, it can be concluded that the use of peer correction techniques is very effective in the ability to write descriptive paragraphs, where students learn from each other to find out their mistakes, increase cooperation between students, students have critical thinking skills in writing. In other words, peer correction can help the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph
