Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the difficulty of mastering vocabulary in class VIII students at SMPN 06 KAUR. Class VIII students in understanding English vocabulary at SMPN 06 Kaur and to find out the factors causing class VIII students at SMPN 06 Kaur to experience difficulties in mastering English vocabulary observed in class VIII students at SMPN 06 Kaur. The method in this research is quantitative with descriptive research type. The population of this study were students at SMPN 06 KAUR. This research was carried out by distributing questionnaires. First, the researcher gave a questionnaire to one class with 25 questions. After that, the researcher gave a questionnaire sheet to the students, and the students answered the questions by ticking their choices, then analyzed using the SPPS 26 window. The findings of this research showed that of the 30 respondents, only a few got a score of 84 from the selected items. The score is very good, while the rest get a score below 80, with an average of 70-74 or a good score with a very low frequency and then up to very good for all categories, and students get an average frequency score of 1% of the maximum score of 84. Conclusion: Based on the research results, it is known that the majority of class VIII students at SMPN 06 Kaur have good English comprehension skills. Most students scored in the “very good” and “good” categories, indicating that their understanding of English vocabulary is quite strong. However, there are still some students who experience difficulties with grammar and pronunciation.
