Abstract

The reading comprehension of eighth grade students at MTs Roudlotur Rosmani, Bengkulu City often presents challenges such as difficulty understanding the main idea, the meaning of the text, the type of text, and unfamiliarity with new vocabulary. This study uses a group-based learning model and games, namely cooperative TGT (Team Game Tournament) because it is considered capable of overcoming these problems. To evaluate the improvements achieved, this study focuses on using an experimental design in the form of a pre-test and posttest involving 18 participants. In the post-test conducted by the researcher found a significant difference in the experimental class that implemented the TGT model that achieved higher scores than the control class, which only used conventional teaching methods without TGT. The experimental class that implemented TGT-based learning achieved an average score of 83.11, while the control class, which used conventional learning models only achieved an average score of 54.67. In the analysis using N-Gain the results showed a score of 73.01% for the experimental class. From these results it can be concluded that the use of TGT in improving students' reading abilities has been effective and successful.
