Abstract

This study aimed to explore the use of Instagram as a tool to enhance the speaking skills of fourth-semester students in the English Education Study Program at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu by examining their perceptions, the ways they utilized Instagram features, and the challenges they encountered. This qualitative descriptive involved ten students selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through semistructured interviews and documentation and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. The findings revealed that students perceived Instagram as an engaging and supportive learning platform. They used features such as Reels, Stories, educational accounts, and recorded videos to practice speaking, while also developing independent learning strategies. However, they experienced psychological, linguistic, technical, and selfregulation challenges. The findings indicate that Instagram serves as a complementary learning tool that supports speaking development through authentic language exposure, independent practice, and social interaction. This study extends previous research by highlighting that the effectiveness of Instagram depends on students' learner autonomy, self-regulated learning, and strategic use of its features rather than the platform itself.
