Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out empirical evidence from the effectiveness of using the Duolingo application through students' vocabulary mastery. In this study used research design is a Quasi-experimental. To conduct the research, 36 students from 2A and 2C English Department Students at Islamic University State Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu were selected as samples in this research. They are class 2A as the experimental class, and class 2C as the control class. Each class consists of 18 students. The Duolingo application is used as the instrument in the experimental class while the control class is taught with teacher presentations and some quizzes. Based on calculations, post-test the average value of the experimental class was 92.61 while that of the control class was 75.89 . The results of statistical hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-tes it was revealed that at a significance level of 7.518 was obtained while t table is 2.032 or to observe > ttable. Therefore, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Furthermore, the Levene Test formulation was used to determine the magnitude of the effect using the Duolingo application and a p value of 0.116 is obtained. The results show that using Duolingo is effective through student and moderate vocabulary mastery effect on students of the 2nd English Department Students at Islamic University State Fatamwati Sukarno Bengkulu.
