Abstract

This study aims to investigate the factors contributing to TOEFL anxiety among 8th semester English Education students at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu and explore those anxiety from the test-takers' perspective. The importance of English language proficiency in Indonesia has grown significantly, particularly with the implementation of Act No. 24 of 2009, which emphasizes the use of foreign languages in the educational system to facilitate global field mastery. As a result, English has become a crucial language to master, and the TOEFL test has become a widely accepted standard for measuring English language ability. The study employed a qualitative approach, using a interview and survey questionnaire to collect data and rom 8th semester English Education students at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. The results of the study indicate that TOEFL anxiety is a significant concern for many test-takers, and that it can have a negative impact on test performance. Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of TOEFL anxiety and its impact on test performance. The findings of this study can be used to inform the development of test preparation programs and anxiety management strategies, ultimately improving the test-taking experience for English language learners.
