Abstract

A key component of learning the English language is mastering grammar. This study aims to identify the Grammar Learning Strategies (GLS) employed by male and female students, characterize their grammar proficiency, and ascertain whether there are notable distinctions in grammatical proficiency between male and female students. 81 eighth-graders participated in this study, which used a quantitative comparative approach. A Grammar Test and a Grammar Learning Strategies Questionnaire were used to gather data, which were then examined using descriptive statistics and an independent samples t-test. The study's findings show that all categories of grammar learning strategies are employed by both male and female students, with cognitive strategies being the most popular. A low level of grammar competency was indicated by the average score of 53.88 for male students and 53.89 for female students. Male and female students' proficiency in English grammar was not xvii significantly different, according to the independent samples t-test results, which indicated a Sig. (two-tailed) value of 0.997 (> 0.05). As a result, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and the null hypothesis (H₀) was accepted.
