Abstract
This quasi-experimental study, which will be conducted on ninth-graders at SMPN 26 Seluma during the academic year 2022– 20223 aims to study the effect of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy on students' ability of reading comprehension. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling, the total of sample in this study is 53 students. Consisting of 26 students for the experimental class and 27 students for class control. To gather data for this study, the researcher used 20 multiple-choice questions made up the entire test (Procedure text). The test was separated into two parts:pre-test which is given before treatment and post-test which is given after treatment. The results have shown the mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 56,54 and the mean score of post-test was 75,38. Meanwhile, the mean score of pre-test in control class was 58.15 and the mean score of post-test was 65,37. It can be concluded that there was a significant effect of using Directed Reading Thinking Activity ( DRTA ) as a treatment in the experimental class on students reading comprehension in procedure text.
