Abstract
This study aims to determine the perspective of English teachers in implementing the Merdeka curriculum and the role of teachers in providing learning motivation for VII class students at SMPN 5 Bengkulu. Perspective is a person's experience of things, events, or relationships obtained by assuming knowledge and interpreting messages. The role of the teacher is the teacher as a tutor, teacher as an educator, teacher as a guide and teacher as a manager. The Merdeka curriculum is one of the curriculum concepts that demands independence for students. Independence in the sense that each learner is given the freedom to access knowledge obtained from formal and non-formal education. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The informants of this study were 2 seventh grade English teachers and 5 students of seventh grade. Data collection in this research is observation, interview and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed by data reduction, data presentation and then a conclusion was drawn. The results of the study found that seventh grade English teachers at SMPN 5 Bengkulu have a positive perspective on the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum initiated by the minister of education and teachers appreciate the policy. VII class English teachers also have an important role in providing student learning motivation.
