Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between students' reading habits and their reading comprehension in seventh grade students of SMPN 15 Bengkulu City in the 2022/2023 academic year. The method used in this research is quantitative research and is designed in the form of correlational research. The population of this study was forty seventh grade students for the 2022/2023 school year. Student data was collected through simple random sampling technique. The research instruments are questionnaire and test. First of all, a reading habit questionnaire was given to students in the form of a closed questionnaire. The purpose of this test is to determine the score of students' reading habits. Second, a reading comprehension test was conducted to measure students' reading comprehension. Then, the writer analyzes this relationship using Pearson's Product Moment Formula to correlate reading habits (variable X) and reading comprehension (variable Y). The research results obtained (Rxy = 0.455) > from table (0.312). Degrees of freedom (df) is 40 – 2 = 38 at 5% significance table obtained 0.312. Assuming the hypothesis that Rxy is greater than rt (Rxy > rt), then the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The author concludes that there is a moderate relationship between students' reading habits (X) and reading comprehension (Y) in class VII SMP Negeri 15 Bengkulu City in the 2022/2023 academic year.
