Abstract

This research was conducted based on the researcher's observation that students were facing difficulties in understanding the meaning of texts. The objective of the research is to determine the effect of using the Learning Community Strategy on student achievement in writing descriptive texts at SMAN 6 KAUR. This study involved 42 students, with 21 students in the experimental class (XI IPA 1) and 21 students in the control class (XI IPA 2). The researcher employed purposive sampling to select the sample. An instrumented test, comprising both pre-test and post-test essay tests, was used to collect data. The assessment focused on students' writing ability in descriptive texts. The data were analyzed using statistical analysis techniques, and the hypothesis was tested using the t-test. Based on the computation of the results, the average pre-test score for the experimental class was 67.1, and for the control class, it was 69.7. Meanwhile, the average post-test score for the experimental class was 79.5, and for the control class, it was 71.9. It can be concluded that, based on the results, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The alternative hypothesis was accepted because the p-value (0.045) was lower than sig. α = 0.05 (5%). This indicates a significant increase in students' writing ability after applying the learning community strategy.
