Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a significant effect on the dictionary of slang words in improving students' speaking skills towards understanding in student learning. This research was carried out at MAN Kaur. The method used in this research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design to test the effectiveness of using slang words in improving students' speaking skills. The total sample used for this study was 62 students, consisting of 31 students from class XI.1 (control class) and 31 students from class XI.2 (experimental class). The instrument in this study was an oral speaking test, and the instrument used to collect data was the students' pre-test scores and post-test scores, which were calculated and analyzed using SPSS 25 software. A slang word dictionary can improve students' knowledge and speaking skills, which are delivered from the scores obtained and from student responses to teaching and learning activities in class. In conclusion, a dictionary of slang words can improve students' knowledge and speaking skills, as shown by the scores obtained and from students' responses to the teaching and learning activities of eleventh grade students at MAN in the 2022/2023 academic year
