Abstract

The use of captions on Instagram as a tool to improve students' writing has a number of significant advantages. Instagram is a very familiar and engaging platform for students, so they tend to be more motivated to write when using a medium that they already know and love. By writing captions, students are trained to convey a clear and compelling message within a relatively short character limit, which hones their ability to formulate ideas concisely and effectively. This study aims to determine whether or not there is a significant difference in the application of captions on the Instagram application as learning material on the writing ability of XII grade students of SMA N 7 Bengkulu city, academic year 2024-2025. This research uses Quasiexperimental method. This research has been conducted at SMA Negeri 7 Bengkulu city. The population of this study were XII grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Bengkulu city totaling 72 people. The results of the pre-test showed the average value in the experimental class was 50.17 and the control class was 47.50, after giving the treatment. The posttest was given to both classes. The results of the post-test showed the average value in the experimental class was 61.83 and the control class was 50.67. In other words, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This study concludes that it can be stated that teaching English text writing to students by using captions on Instagram as learning media is more effective than using the usual way. So, it can be concluded that Instagram captions as learning media have a positive effect on the writing ability of XII grade students at SMA Negeri 07 Bengkulu City, academic year 2024-2025.
