Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of collaborative learning toward fostering higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in reading comprehension among sixth-semester Study Program of English Education students at Universitas Islam Negeri Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. The context of this study is based on students' inadequate HOTS competence, particularly in analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing information on reading comprehension tests, as well as a lack of interaction and innovative learning strategies in the classroom. This study used a one-shot case study design with no control group and one class as the research topic. The findings revealed a considerable improvement in students' HOTS abilities following the deployment of collaborative learning, based on the analysis of the t-test formulas obtained sig. The value is <0.001. It can be concluded that <0.001 <0.05. This means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The author conclude that there is significant effect of using collaborative learning toward fostering HOTS students in reading comprehension.
