Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions of the use of podcasts in improving English speaking skills among 4th semester students of English Education Study Program of UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. The background of this study is based on the importance of speaking skills in English and the utilization of alternative learning media such as podcasts which are considered capable of assisting the development of speaking skills in a flexible and interesting manner. This research uses a qualitative approach with a perceptual study method. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires to 4th semester students who have used podcasts as one of the learning media for speaking. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that in general, students' perceptions of the use of podcasts were positive. Students assessed that podcasts facilitate access to learning, increase motivation, provide a variety of learning styles, and expand their knowledge of English practically. Nevertheless, there are some challenges such as technical constraints and difficulties in understanding podcast material with complex topics.
