Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify students needs in mastering English speaking skills for social interaction and to analyze the prototype of a Student Worksheet (LKPD) based on social interaction that can be effectively used in learning. The research method used was a mixed methods approach, namely a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews with teachers and students and classroom learning observations, while quantitative data were collected through distributing questionnaires to 14 seventh-grade students. Quantitative data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum values, and score distribution. The results showed that based on the interviews, students learned thematic basics, examples of contextual conversations, and speaking practice in real situations to improve speaking skills. The teacher also emphasized the importance of cartoon films as a medium to attract students' attention, increase knowledge, and build self-confidence. The results of the observations showed that the teacher succeeded in creating a comfortable learning atmosphere, so that students were more active in asking questions and daring to try speaking. From the results of the student questionnaire, an average score of 83.00 with a standard deviation of 4.10 was obtained, the highest score was 90, and the lowest score was 73, which is categorized as Strongly Agree. A total of 85.7% of respondents chose the Strongly Agree category and 14.3% Agree, reflecting the consistency of students' positive perceptions. The results of the teacher questionnaire also showed a score of 87%, which is included in the Strongly Agree category, thus strengthening support for the development of social interactionbased LKPD. Overall, these data prove that the prototype of social interaction-based LKPD with cartoon film media can be developed effectively to improve the speaking skills of seventh-grade students of MTs Darussalam, Bengkulu City.
