Abstract

This study aims to analyze the significant of to Total Physical Response (TPR) method on students vocabulary mastery of fifth-grade at SDN 182 Bengkulu Utara. Vocabulary is an important aspect of English language proficiency, but many students still have difficulty understanding and remembering new words. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design consisting of two groups: an experimental group that received instruction using the TPR method and a control group that learned using lecture-methods. The sample size in this study was 43 students, determined using total sampling technique. The research instrument was a vocabulary test administered at the pre-test and post-test stages. A significance effect on students vocabulary in the experimental, where the average score rose from 54.66 to 81.47. Meanwhile, the control group only experienced from 34.77 to 47.22. Based on the results of statistical analysis, the TPR method was proven to have a significant effect on students' vocabulary skills. Thus, the Total Physical Response method can be considered effective and feasible as an alternative for teaching vocabulary to elementary school students.
